Quail farm project. Who else is not a farmer? Here is your business plan

Despite the fact that in the old days our kings ate quail, the first farms in Russia appeared only in the second half of the twentieth century. Today, the creation of a quail farm and the breeding of quails as a business are increasingly of interest to our compatriots, not only to earn money, but also to feed their own families. Quail eggs have become a popular part of the diet of the country's population due to their richness in vitamins and minerals. Eggs can be eaten raw without fear of salmonellosis, quails do not suffer from bird flu, and the shelf life of quail eggs is three times longer than chicken eggs. Poultry meat is dietary, contains many useful substances and trace elements. Quail meat can be stored for a long time even when frozen, without losing its qualities.

Many farmers claim the profitability of the quail business and its quick payback. In this article, we will try to figure out whether this is so and calculate your earnings.

Quail business - eggs or meat?

The most ancient quail breed is the "Japanese" quail. Its egg production is about 300 eggs per year from one laying hen. All subsequent breeds were obtained on the basis of crossing from the “Japanese” quail. Therefore, initially, quails with egg direction became most widespread and the first quail farms specialized mainly in the production of eggs. Egg quails differ from the meat orientation of quails in a relatively smaller carcass weight.

The best breed for breeding eggs is still considered to be “Japanese”. The weight of the male reaches 110-120 grams, the weight of the female is 135-150 grams. The first egg-laying in a Japanese quail can be already at the age of 35-40 days, the average number of eggs per year from one laying hen is 300 eggs, with an egg weight of 9 to 12 grams. The first year of “Japanese” quails is the most egg-bearing, in the second year the number of eggs laid can be halved. This breed quickly gains weight and by 40 days weighs the same as an adult bird, is unpretentious in maintenance and resistant to diseases.

By selection from the "Japanese" quail, the most famous breed in Russia was obtained - the "marble" quail. By their own productive qualities it differs little from the "Japanese" breed. The weight of the female reaches 180-200 grams, the weight of the male is 140-160 grams. The egg production of one laying hen averages 280 eggs, with an egg weight of 9 to 12 grams.

An excellent meat breed of quail in Russia is “Pharaoh”. This breed was bred in the USA, has a large live weight and high speed growth. Adult females weigh about 300 grams, males 180-200 grams. By the age of five weeks, their weight can reach 140-150 grams. For a year, on average, about 220 eggs can be obtained from this breed, with an egg weight of 12-16 grams. This breed is quite demanding on maintenance and feeding, and the presentation of carcasses also suffers due to the dark plumage of the bird.

"Texas whites" have a mass of males 360 grams, females 450 grams. This breed is new to our country. The bird is unpretentious, an attractive carcass for the buyer, poor egg production and due to the low activity of males, their number should be increased by the same number of females, relative to other breeds.

The “Estonian” domestic quail can be attributed to the quails of the egg and meat direction. This bird has a live weight of 190-200 grams for the female and 160-170 grams for the male. For a year, 280 eggs are obtained from one laying hen, with an egg weight of 12 grams. It is noteworthy that this breed has a high survival rate of young during the rearing period, but a higher feed intake compared to other quail breeds.

There is still a large number various breeds quails: “English whites”, “English blacks”, “Manchurian golden”, etc. Before choosing a quail breed for your quail mini farm, think about what you want to get, how to earn money. Various articles, films on YouTube can also help with the choice of breed.

How to start building a quail farm?

You need to start from the beginning, namely, deciding what breed you are going to raise and how many birds you will keep. If you plan to grow quails only for yourself, then 25 heads are enough; going for yourself and a little for sale - up to 80 goals; business project at home from 200 birds; quail farm in industrial scale from 800 pieces.

If you have never raised or bred a bird, you do not have a reliable source of sales of products and do not have enough funds to provide a normal bird, then start small. In our business plan, we will try to calculate the income and expenses for maintaining a quail farm in the amount of 60 pieces on our personal plot.

Quail rearing. Quail premises and conditions.

Quails are quite resistant to most bird diseases, but improper maintenance can cause them stress. For example, poor lighting for more than 12 hours can result in a bird not laying.

The hatching of young quails is difficult due to the fact that female quails do not incubate eggs well. They do not have this instinct, so they will need a special device to get offspring - an incubator. They say that sometimes quail eggs are laid for incubation by chickens or pigeons. The temperature for artificial breeding should be 38 ° C, humidity 67-75%. Consider equipment for a quail farm. In our business model, we buy an incubator for 10,000 rubles. For personal purposes, the incubator can be made independently. We knock together a mesh box, a lamp for heat on top, water for humidity nearby. Eggs for hatching must be “fresh”, no more than 6 days. The young hatch on the 17th day.

After hatching, the chicks are placed in a box with high sides, either in a plywood box with holes for air or in the mesh box mentioned above. So the chicks live for two weeks, the air temperature is 36-38°C.

Chicks should be closely monitored, especially if there are small children or pets in the house. On the first day, the chicks are fed boiled chicken or quail eggs with ground eggshells. From the second day, low-fat cottage cheese is added, 2 grams per head. From the third or fourth day they begin to give chopped greens and reduce the boiled egg. After a week, you can start giving compound feed for chicks and do not forget the greens. From the 28th day, the bird is transferred to adult food. Water for chicks should always be boiled, without debris and not cold, change it twice a day. After 3-4 weeks, the chicks are prepared for general maintenance, the temperature gradually decreases.

Adult food for quails. Quails need to be fed three times a day, preferably by the hour. With a small content of quails or with apartment maintenance, you can use special food from a pet store for parrots, chopped herbs, mealworms, bloodworms. When breeding quails in farms, ready-made feed is used. On their farms, farmers often feed quails with chicken feed, as a vitamin supplement they give greens, boiled vegetables, grain sprouts, and seeds. Twice a week add bone meal and chopped boiled fish, egg shells, chalk.

The meat breed is fed a little differently, they are fed four to five times a day, portions are also increased so that the bird gains weight faster. Two feedings per day should contain grain waste, corn, chopped greens with the addition of feed fat.

You can make your own feed. There are many options on the internet. Let's take one of them. The mixture consists of 25% corn, 30% wheat, 4% barley, 1% shells, 40% sunflower meal and fishmeal. By the way, onions and fish in the feed worsen the taste of meat, but the presence of carrots improves its color. Ready-made compound feed PK-5 is suitable for the parent herd, PK-1 and PK-2 feed is suitable for adult bird, PC-2,2, PC-4, PC-6 are suitable for fattening.

Universal recipe, only the ratio of the weight fractions of the components changes, in accordance with the table below. Weight in grams per head.

Age, days

Meat and bone or fish meal

boiled egg

The female during the laying period eats from 25 to 45 grams of food per day, the male 20-30 grams. The quail begins to rush at the age of 30-40 days and correct content can lay up to 300 eggs. If you are going to raise a bird for “slaughter”, then for 1.5-2 months from birth, 1-1.2 kilograms of feed is consumed per bird on average.

Quail slaughter begins from 1.5 to 2 months, starting with larger ones. At two months, they reach their physiological maturity and will not grow again. When growing quail for an egg, they are kept for up to a year, since at this time there is increased egg production, and then they are slaughtered.

Quail farm equipment

The area required for keeping an adult bird is on average 1.5-1.7 sq.dm. for one head. For our calculations, we plan to prepare cages of 65 * 75 for quails. We plan to put 30 chicks, 25 females and 5 males in each cage. The recommendation of placement by gender is 1:5. Feeders should be positioned so that the bird sticks its head out and pecks at the food as much as needed. If you put the feeder inside the cage, then they can scatter the feed and as a result, its consumption will be greater. Cells can be made independently. In our calculation, we laid 45,000 rubles for cages, feeders and drinkers. With a large number of quails, cages can be placed in 3-4 tiers.

Is it possible to grow quails at home?

Can. If everything is cleaned up after them, then the smell from quails will be no less than from the pets we are used to, and it is no more difficult to keep them than canaries. Only in this case you get fresh eggs almost daily. It is believed that it is even more profitable to breed quails than chickens or rabbits.

Quail breeding business plan

Model for calculation - personal subsidiary farm. We will breed meat breed quail.

For calculation, we assume that the cost of selling a quail egg is 3 rubles apiece. From each quail we get 180 eggs. The cost of selling a carcass is 500 rubles per kilogram, the weight of a carcass is 150-200 grams. In one kilogram there are 5-6 carcasses of quails. We take for calculation the weight of the carcass 170 grams.

For breeding quails, we buy a hatching quail egg, the cost is 7 rubles apiece. We plan that the herd of quails will be 60 pieces, we buy 30% more hatching eggs.

The initial investment will amount to 55,630 rubles.

The organizational plan of our farm will look like this.

We calculated the model for the sale of quails using the example of private household plots, i.e. sell to friends and on the market. With this model, you only need veterinary certificates. If you are going to start growing quails for business, then you need to register it, the easiest way is to issue an IP. The maintenance and rearing of poultry must comply with veterinary regulations, the sale of eggs and quail carcasses will also require the execution of many documents, for all products you will need to obtain certificates, develop egg packaging. As the saying goes big business- big problems.

But, nevertheless, we see that growing quails is enough profitable business. The payback in our model was 8 months, the profitability of the quail farm was 55%.

We sketched a business plan here the other day by popular demand, maybe it will come in handy for someone. Quail numbers are small, for a modest business without involving employees. For home family business. Well, see for yourself...

Cost for custom made 3 pcs. 15-20 thousand rubles each a piece.

5. Farm incubator (Blitz, TGB and the like)

3 pieces for 10-15 thousand rubles

Attention! inexpensive household foam incubators are not very suitable for quail hatching.

Description of the production process

The mother flock, consisting of 100-120 females and 30-50 males, depending on the breed, is intended for obtaining hatching eggs. When breeding for meat, we recommend using Texas quail. A flock in this quantity should lay 400-450 eggs of incubation quality per week. Rejected eggs are sold as food.

The eggs laid in the first week are laid in the incubator. The eggs laid in the second week are laid in the second incubator. Eggs laid in the third week are laid in the third incubator.

In the middle of the third week (on the 16-17th day), the quail hatches in the first incubator. Of 450 eggs, 350-400 quails should hatch, of which at least 300 heads should survive to adulthood.

Newborn quails are placed in the first brooder until the age of 10 days.

In the middle of the fourth week after the start of activity, the quail hatches in the second incubator, which are placed in the second brooder.

By the time of hatching, the first brooder is released in the third incubator, the grown chicks from which are transferred to the cage for rearing. This continues every week: eggs are collected, laid in incubators, chicks in a brooder, then in cages for rearing.

On days 42-56 (depending on condition), the first batch of quails is sent for slaughter.

Accordingly, after 2.5 months we have the first results for meat. At least 220 quail carcasses are subject to sale. The remaining amount can be used as replacement young for old or departed parents; partially implemented.

These 5 years are running out….. Good luck!

Many people, especially those living in a village or in a country house, ask themselves the question: “Is it possible to make money at home?”. Well, of course, yes, for example, on the creation of a quail farm. Now in Russia this business is gradually gaining momentum. This is due to its high liquidity, quick payback and great prospects.

This type of activity is carried out not only by large producers, but also by small farms. The demand for quail farm products is several times higher than the supply. And if the demand is high, then it must be satisfied. Some statistics: Russia produces 350 thousand eggs a year, Japan - 7 million, and China - ten times more.

The only thing holding back the development of this sphere is the passive attitude of many Russian retail chains. However, demand is still growing. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, then first you will need to draw up a business plan for a quail farm. And we will help you with this.

Quail farm: profitability

In recent years, this figure has dropped significantly. About 5 years ago it was still possible to talk about 300% profitability, and a year ago about 100%, but now its level is much lower. This is especially true for large manufacturers. Even if the enterprise has its own feed base, the profitability will be at the level of 30%. For small farms that are not burdened with expenses for veterinary opinions, logistics, etc., this figure can vary from 50 to 100%.

Eggs or meat?

There are two distinct trends in quail breeding. The first is laying hens, which lay about 300 eggs per year. Second - meat direction, or, to be more precise, the production of dietary meat. This type of activity is not yet very popular, as most farms focuses primarily on the sale of eggs. If you find it difficult to choose a particular direction, then do two at once.

Where to begin?

Quail farm business plan should contain total amount expenses. For example, if you buy 500-700 birds, then the cost of equipping the farm will be about 8-10 thousand dollars. The main expenses are the manufacture of equipment and the purchase of hatching eggs or adult quails. Thanks to rapid growth and the fecundity of birds, their number will increase by about 10 times in a year, which will fully pay off the invested capital.

It is very important to regularly update the livestock, as the productivity of one-year-old quails is halved. To do this, you need to form a parent herd, in which there would be 3-4 females per male. An egg intended for procreation must be taken from a two-three-month-old bird.

If the female is older than 10 months, then her eggs are used for food. Quails older than a year are slaughtered for meat. By the way, young animals are just as profitable to sell as eggs and meat. If you are still a little versed in all this, then be sure to buy a manual on the topic: “ quail farm with your own hands." It will help to master the basics of this activity.

room

The location of the premises does not play a significant role for the quail farm. The main thing is compliance with the basic requirements for breeding quails. First of all, it is a year-round temperature of 18-27°C and a humidity of 70%. Quails are very capricious birds: on the one hand, they need fresh air, and on the other hand, they cannot stand drafts. A suitable solution would be automatic system ventilation. As for the farm area, it will take only 15-20 square meters to keep 700 birds. m.

In addition, utility rooms will be required: for hatchers and incubators, for keeping young animals and chickens (an area of approximately 5 sq. M.), For the preparation and storage of feed (area 10 sq. M.). Young animals are kept in special cages, and "newborns" - in insulated brooders at a temperature of 25-37 ° C. If the quail keeping regime is violated, they will begin to get sick and die. For example, if the light is too strong, the birds will simply peck at each other.

Well, I would like to say separately about heating. Oil radiators are quite suitable, but it is better to make a water heating system. Firstly, it will significantly save electricity, and secondly, the air will not be dry. Never use open radiators!

They significantly reduce air humidity, due to which your quails may be left without feathers. If you are planning to create a room from scratch, but do not have the relevant knowledge, then it is better to contact professionals who know exactly how to build a quail farm. Now there is no shortage of such specialists in the market.

Quail farm equipment

This is one of the most important points. The main equipment of the farm is cage batteries, consisting of 5-6 cages, each of which should have feeders, drinkers and small sides to “trap” the eggs.

In such a cage, the floor has a slight slope, and as soon as the quail lays an egg, it immediately rolls to the side. Such a cage battery can accommodate 250-300 birds. Usually, entrepreneurs make them on their own from rebar, metal sheet, plywood and galvanized mesh.

Detailed manufacturing technology is in any manual on the topic: "Do-it-yourself quail farm." But you can buy a ready-made version. One cellular battery of 6 cells costs about $200-250. In addition to cells, you will need a hatcher and an incubator. In the latter, the following conditions must be met: automatic egg turning, temperature 37-39 ° C and humidity in the region of 50-90%. The approximate cost of an incubator is $ 400-500, but if you have a chicken "mechanical hen", you can use it.

Feed

The feed base is not inferior in importance to the equipment and must be included in the business plan of a quail farm. There are many different forms and types of compound feed on the market, but not all of them contain required amount ingredients vital for birds.

You can choose a quality product either on the advice of a specialist, or by trial and error. But it is extremely undesirable to feed quails with one compound feed. It is necessary to add ground corn, ground wheat and ground sunflower seeds to it. The cost of feed is $300-400 per ton.

Sales

We have already found out above that a quail farm as a business is a fairly profitable business. But for it to remain so, you need to have constant distribution channels. Entrepreneurs sell quail eggs to acquaintances and friends, sell them through markets and shops, and also sell them to wholesale buyers. Carcasses of birds are delivered to sanatoriums, kindergartens, restaurants, recreation centers, cafes, etc.

And with catering outlets quail breeders negotiate directly to minimize losses through intermediaries. But at the same time, it is necessary to work on the establishment of wholesale distribution. Moreover, quail eggs can be stored for up to 30 days at room temperature and up to 60 days in the refrigerator. This main factor attracting wholesalers.

For the same reason, you can consider markets not only in your hometown, but also in nearby settlements. Remember that if products accumulate in warehouses, then this does not bring any profit, but only increases the cost of storage. Therefore, always look for additional distribution channels.

Staff

All pet birds need daily care. This is the collection of eggs, and feeding, and cleaning the litter. In addition, you need to prepare the feed mixture and monitor the maintenance of the temperature and humidity required for the room. You also need to monitor the incubator, seat the quails in cages and, finally, slaughter and cut. It takes a lot of time because all processes require human intervention.

Of course, if you have an automated quail farm, there will be no such problems. But at least one person is needed to control it. But in general, 2 people will be needed to service a farm with a population of 500-700 birds. As a rule, this business is run by families, which is why it is called a family business. You don't need any special knowledge to work. You can learn basic operations in a couple of days. If you hire a person from outside, then warn him about work even on holidays and weekends (it is better to hire 2-3 people, and let them work on a rolling schedule).

Additional income

Everyone has probably heard the saying that a bad example is contagious. It works great in relation to such a type of economy as a home quail farm. When you achieve high results in this field, everyone around you will want to have the same. So people will reach out to you: someone will need a feeder, someone will need a brooder, someone will need a cage, etc.

By learning how to make all the equipment yourself, you will receive additional source income. For example, having the appropriate skill, you can make a cellular battery (3 cells) in just half a day. Earnings will be approximately 6-7 thousand rubles. The same can be said about drinkers, feeders, brooders and other equipment for a quail farm.

The sale of young animals is the second additional source of income. Without exception, all beginner quail growers need a breeding bird. If you are a successful poultry farmer, then there will be enough people who want to buy quails from you. Well, it would be useful to place an appropriate advertisement for the sale in newspapers and the Internet.

The last item of income is litter. And don't be surprised. A bag of dry, clean bird droppings can cost about 1,000 rubles. This amount will be paid without talking by those who understand at least something in organic fertilizers.

Conclusion

In this article, we have described the main points that a quail farm business plan should contain. When you write it, make adjustments depending on your situation. To engage in this type of activity or not, it's up to you. Just know that in order to earn good money, you have to work hard. We wish you success!

The income here is based on a moderate investment of funds and the quick sale of the products obtained (dietary meat and quail eggs are in great demand).

Features of the quail farm

Quails begin laying as soon as they reach adulthood (after about 5-7 weeks of keeping).

This means that investments begin to pay off through the sale of eggs.

Birds of this breed are unpretentious, they do not need a special approach or attention.

Quails easily tolerate various weather conditions, they will feel equally comfortable indoors and outdoors.

The best option is mixed conditions for growing birds.

The main task of the quail farm employees is to feed and water the pets in a timely manner, clean the manure daily, collect and complete the eggs.
It is better to choose a room for breeding birds on the outskirts of the city.

The size of the farm is determined based on the planned number of quails. At first, it will be enough to purchase about 500 birds.

Bird nutrition

At the moment, there are no special, ready-made feeds for quails. In view of this, the feeding ration should be based on the combination various kinds grain crops.

The following feed composition will be optimal:

  • Wheat (30%);
  • Corn (25%);
  • Barley (5%);
  • Vitamin supplements - fishmeal and sunflower cake.

Description of farm services

Quail carcasses can be sold both wholesale and retail. At the same time, the features of the sale must be worked out in advance in the business plan of the quail farm.

Quail eggs are in high demand in the market, due to their dietary and medicinal qualities. The scope of their application is quite extensive: they normalize the work of the digestive tract, circulatory system, improve appetite in children.

Quail eggs are successfully used in the treatment of diabetes, tuberculosis, headaches and kidney disease, as well as obesity.

Sales market analysis

Due to the fact that this line of business is quite new for our country, the level of competition is not high. Therefore, for a correct analysis of the sales market for products, purposeful work with an established circle of customers is needed.

It is very important to pre-conclude an agreement on the supply of basic products (meat and eggs) and their implementation.

Buyers may be various organizations: cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, trade pavilions, recreation centers, individual entrepreneurs.

It is important to remember at the same time that when selling meat to food establishments, it is necessary to obtain a certificate for products corresponding to accepted norms and standards.
