A modern man in an old photograph. We expose! Guy from the future? Man from the future in the photo

In May 2010, one photo was posted on the website of the Canadian museum "Bralorne Pioneer Museum" as an exhibit of the virtual exhibition "Their Past Lives Here" ("Their past lives here"). A snapshot reflecting an ordinary event, significant only for residents of British Columbia in Canada: the opening in 1940 of a new South Fork Bridge, built to replace the one destroyed by the flood.

After some time, a heated discussion of this photo began on the Internet, as some visitors to the site considered a person from the future in it.
Everyone's attention was drawn to the figure of a tall unshaven man in dark glasses. Its too modern look: a haircut, a T-shirt with an allegedly printed emblem, a sweater, a portable camera and, especially, glasses - reminds rather of a 21st century hipster and clearly distinguishes him from his other contemporaries in this photo. Unusual view this young man attracted increased attention of the Internet community to him and gave rise to a lot of controversy about who this mysterious beatnik is. A significant part of the audience thought that a person from the future was present in the picture from the past. There is, so to speak, movement in time space. Skeptics, on the contrary, believed that this was an ordinary picture, absolutely nothing outstanding.

Numerous Internet posts and media reports have claimed that the photo in question has been subjected to careful computer analysis experts to identify software photomanipulations. An analysis that, by comparing the background and the suspicious object, reveals whether a photomontage has been used. The result of the check is the original picture.

Let's try and we understand some of the details of the photo and some facts.

The Forgetomori website, which posted several posts about this picture, reported that the Russian television team from NTV (yes, the same ones) filmed at the Bralorne Pioneer Museum and tracked down original photo in one of the photo albums. Local President historical society Sally Bird (Sally Bird) opened a museum specifically for filming, since the museum is small, rarely visited, and in winter it was generally closed for viewing. TV journalist Yevgeny Balamutenko claims: "The photo is 100% real!" This moment is captured in the video. This meant that the photo was real, stored in a museum, and that the person in it was actually present at the time of shooting.

The team of journalists continued their investigation and tracked down local historian Norm Gronskey, who also happened to be the only living witness to the incident. At the time of shooting, he was only 11 years old and his memory could well fail. But Norm Gronsky claimed to find nothing out of the ordinary in the photo. And that neither clothes, nor sunglasses, a camera, etc. were not unusual for those times.

Indeed, our hero's sunglasses make him stand out from the crowd. But glasses of a similar model existed in the 40s. They were worn by either climbers or motorcyclists. In addition, sunglasses with glass lenses were still in the French colonial army during the time of Napoleon.

Similar sunglasses can be seen on actress Barbara Stanwyck in the 1944 film Double Indemnity.

The hypothesis that only large and bulky cameras were used in those years also did not find its confirmation. The German Leica camera, for example, of the 1941 model, is a very miniature camera. This can be seen in the photographs of the war years. Kodak also produced then fairly small portable models with a retractable lens, such as the Kodak Folding Pocket, available since the early 20th century.

Undoubtedly, the clothes and haircut of the mysterious stranger in the photo stand out sharply against the general background of the official dress uniform. But who knows, maybe this is just a local original, with a well-developed sense of style, not wanting to look like everyone else. Hipster 40s. An unusual sweater could be knitted for him by his loving grandmother. The emblem on the jersey may well mean the emblem of the then fashion or belonging to a certain golf club, equestrian club, or, for example, educational institution. As Evgeny Balamutenko says, “it can be a hockey player or a vacationer. I found a couple of photos of guys who looked like guys in the archives of the Bralorne Pioneer Museum.

The journalist believes they found information about the alleged hipster in the archives printed edition"Lilloet", which tells about a certain Edward Russell (Edward Russel). A small note was published a week before the events described. It reports that the future Air Lieutenant Edward Russell came to visit his relatives from the UK on vacation. In addition, this news mentions E. Russell's glasses as part of his outfit and notes his high growth. Maybe he's the one in the photo. But this is just a guess.

Another version has been put forward that the picture shows Albert Wihksne, who lives in the same area and who had another photo of the re-opening of the bridge. But his son John doesn't think his father is the hipster everyone is looking for.

Is time travel possible? Disputes on this topic do not stop, but there is very little information on this topic and rather resemble speculation. While official science does not recognize this as a scientifically proven fact. And in general, everything is relative: those who believe will find evidence of the reality of this photo, those who do not believe will find as much irrefutable evidence that it is a fake.

17.11.2014

Secrets and mysticism always attract people. This is not surprising - the very existence of life on Earth, and even with intelligent beings, is a complete mystery and mysticism.

Here are collected 11+1 photos and videos that are not fully understood even by experts. True, while this selection was being prepared, the solution to one mystery (with the Black Prince) was found. Maybe you can figure out all the rest?

12. Lady Babushka (The Babushka Lady)

On November 22, 1963, shots rang out in Dallas at 12:30. Most of the people filming the president's motorcade on camera rushed to run. However, one of the women, whose face was hidden under a headscarf, continued to film for some time after the shots were fired. Then she crossed Elm Street and blended into the crowd.

After the murder, law enforcement asked the public to provide them with all the amateur videos made that day. But the video taken by Lady Grandmother has not been found.

The police tried to track down the woman, hoping that her footage would be decisive evidence, but to this day she has not been found. She received such a nickname due to the fact that she was wrapped in a scarf resembling the headdresses of Russian elderly women.

11 Solway Firth Astronaut

In 1964, the family of Briton Jim Templeton was walking near the Solway Firth. The head of the family decided to take a picture of his five-year-old daughter with Kodak. The Templetons claimed that there was no one else in these marshy places except them. And when the pictures were developed, one of them showed a strange figure peeking out from behind the girl. The analysis showed that the photo was not subjected to any changes.

10. Lights of Hessdalen

In 1907, a group of educators, students and scientists set up a scientific camp in Norway to study a mysterious phenomenon called the Hessdalen Fires.

On a clear night, Bjorn Hauge took this picture using a shutter speed of 30 seconds. Spectral analysis showed that the object must be composed of silicon, iron and scandium. This is the most informative, but far from the only photo of the Hessdalen Lights. Scientists are still scratching their heads as to what it could be. True, there is one version.

9. An unexpected guest in the Cooper family

The Cooper family has just moved into their new home in Texas. In honor of the housewarming, a festive table was laid, at the same time we decided to take some family photos. And when the pictures were developed, a strange figure appeared on them - it seems that someone's body is either hanging or falling from the ceiling. Of course, the Coopers did not see anything like this during the shooting.

8. "Alien" in Earth's orbit

This is how this story is described on all the Internet sites that publish collections of pictures and love to fool readers for a couple of clicks:

“... For the first time, an image of an unknown object, called the Black Prince, was taken in 1960 by one of the first satellites of the Earth. In polar orbit, an unidentified object is clearly visible, which could not be either a satellite of the USSR or a satellite of the USA. Since then, this object has been seen repeatedly - it appears and disappears at certain time intervals. After carefully studying the images of the object, scientists are inclined to believe that this is a piece of artificial origin.

This story is actually as simple as three pennies. No, the picture is real. It was taken during the STS-88 flight of the Endeavor spacecraft in 1998. Here it is, in high resolution.

During one of the astronauts' spacewalks, a thermal blanket was lost. One side is silver, the other side is black. It slowly moved away, taking on bizarre shapes, and several photographs were taken. Without knowing the origin of the object, you can name anything. But, fortunately for the astronauts and unfortunately for the mysterious story, it was not an alien satellite.

7. Sea monster filmed off the coast of Hook Island

This well-known image is considered by many to be the result of working with Photoshop. But few people know that the French photographer Robert le Serrec took this unknown giant sea animal back in 1965, and this photo became the subject of heated discussions among zoologists.

6 Sir Goddard's Squadron (1919, published 1975)

Behind one of the aviators, you can clearly see the face of another person. Squadron members claim it is the face of Freddie Jackson, an aircraft mechanic who died in an accident two days before the shoot. His funeral took place on the day the group photo was taken.

5. The mobile phone in a Charlie Chaplin movie

On the DVD of the Collector's Edition of Charlie Chaplin's Circus, a short film about the 1928 premiere was added as a bonus. One of the shots shows a woman holding what looks like a mobile phone in her hand.

Some consider these footage proof of the existence of time travelers. Many are inclined to believe that a woman holds an auditory tube in her hand. But then it is not clear why she smiles and says something to her.

Curious, if it's a cell phone, who is she talking to?

4. Another Time Traveler

This photo was taken in 1941 during the opening of the South Forks Bridge. Attention was drawn to a young man who was considered by many to be a "time traveler" - because of his modern hairstyle, zip-up sweater, printed T-shirt, fashionable glasses and a soap camera. The whole outfit is clearly not from the 40s. On the left, a camera is highlighted in red, which was actually in use at that time.

3. Ghosts of "Watertown"

In December 1924, the American tanker Watertown was heading from the coast of California to New Orleans through the Panama Canal when two sailors, Courtney and Meehan, suffocated from oil fumes. Their bodies were buried at sea off the coast of Mexico.

The next day the first mate saw two faces on the port side of the waves. He immediately recognized them as two dead sailors. Faces appeared again and again every day, and in fact all members of the team saw them many times. Upon arrival in New Orleans, Captain Tracy reported what had happened to the shipping company and was instructed to photograph them.

When the ghostly faces reappeared, Captain Tracy took a picture of them. In one frame, faces were clearly visible. The Bureau of Investigation, which was asked to check the negative, found no evidence of falsification.

2 Pyramids On The Moon

What you see below is a photograph of the Moon's surface, numbered AS17-136-20680, which was taken as part of the Apollo 17 mission. It was listed as "exposed" in the photo catalog. She clearly suffered from excessive light exposure. However, after working with the contrast of this image, it turned out that in fact, structures resembling pyramids were captured on it.

1. The mysterious death of Eliza Lam

This is, as we say - mystics, fresh. The story shook America in early 2013. Young Elisa Lam, a tourist from Canada, arrived in Los Angeles on January 26 and stayed at the affordable Cecile Hotel in the city center. The 21-year-old Canadian of Chinese descent was an exemplary daughter, calling her parents daily and talking about all her adventures while traveling in the United States.

However, shortly after her arrival in the City of Angels, the calls stopped. On January 31, Eliza was seen for the last time - she went to a bookstore near the hotel to buy souvenirs for her relatives, returned to Cecil, rode the elevator - she was recorded by a camera in the cab - and ... disappeared without a trace.

Eliza's footprints were discovered on February 19, when hotel guests began to complain to the staff about the quality of the water. The liquid in the taps darkened, the pressure weakened, a strange aftertaste appeared ... The employees climbed to the roof, where the water supply system is located in American skyscrapers. There, in a tightly closed tank, naked Eliza was found, who at that time had been looking for her parents together with the police for two weeks.

The biggest mystery in this case is the January 31st video of Eliza in the hotel elevator. She presses the same combination of buttons several times in a row, runs out of the elevator, hides, wrings her hands, talks to someone out of camera view - or to herself. Having left on the fourteenth floor (her room was located on the fourth), the girl no longer returns to the elevator.

Interesting results came from the pathologist. According to him, no known drugs and hallucinogens, alcohol were found in the tissues of the tourist. Also, there were no signs of any violence against her: there were no blows, abrasions, signs of a struggle. Moreover, it was established that death occurred in the water - she choked, but did not try to avoid it.

Based on the results of the autopsy, a decision was made - the case was closed, the death was declared an accident. How Eliza got on the roof, how to explain her strange behavior before the loss - and apparently death - all these questions are no longer of interest to the police.

Hollywood also became interested in this story and announced in early 2014 that a film based on the mysterious death of Lam would be released in 2015.

, .

We already had some kind of “time travelers” who left and was popular on the Internet. Now let's look at a very popular photo on the Internet and a very popular story. But since it has not been on this blog yet, let's try to discuss it as objectively as possible and form our opinion on this matter.

So the Canadian Museum (Bralorne Pioneer Museum), located in the province of British Columbia, posted this photo on its website as part of the exhibition "Their Past Lives Here", where the photo, dated 1941, captures the opening of the bridge, which was rebuilt after another flood.

Many Internet users saw one of the participants as a tourist from the future: the guy looks clearly unusual - he is given away by his haircut, T-shirt with a printed logo, a fashionable sweater, a portable camera and 21st-century sunglasses.

Here is this guy:

The photo was reviewed by experts. Subjected to computer analysis, which, by comparing the background and a suspicious object, allows you to determine whether Photoshop was used. No traces of imprinting were found. That is, this youngest man was indeed among the crowd at the time of shooting.

Although, for example, Kharkov researcher Sergey Petrov claims that:

1) on the man’s head and neck there are traces of artificial lightening and shadowing, which contradict the direction of light from the sun to others. This is indicated by vertical pixel lightening on the neck, as well as pixel darkening of the left temple on the head, where there should be no shadow from the ear at all, given the direction of the light source, since there are no shadows from the ears in front-standing men with identical head positions.

2) on the body, in the neck area, the man has traces of “gluing” this head, but of the same age, based on the model of glasses. This is also indicated by the width and height of the head, which is out of proportion with the body. If we compare a man with people standing next to him, then he violates the rules of the geometry of shooting optics, which should apply to everyone and his head should have had a trapezoidal shape, and not a regular oval.

But suppose, nevertheless, that the picture is real.

Incredulous skeptics began to look at the young man through a magnifying glass, trying to still find signs of compliance with 1940. Camera? The Kodak company, for example, already produced quite portable models at that time - folding ones, in which the lens extended like an accordion. It seems that in the hands of the "traveler" something similar.

This camera model was identified as a Super-Ikonta folding medium-format rangefinder camera, which was manufactured by Carl Zeiss in Germany from 1934 to 1936.

Subsequently, on the basis of the Zeiss Ikonta apparatus, cameras of the Moscow series were created in the 1950s. In this photo, a man can be seen holding the open cover of a folding camera lens with his left hand, identical to the release of models of the 1920-1930s.

An insurmountable difficulty was caused by a T-shirt - obviously cotton and with a printed emblem. No analogues were found at that time. There were only sweaters, again knitted and with sewn emblems.

However, this shape of the "M" is similar to the Letterman jackets that were popular in the 1940s and 1960s during the development of American football, basketball, and baseball. The term Letterman (Letterman, from the word letter - letter) comes from the practice of rewarding each participant in the event with a letter made of fabric, which usually indicated belonging to a particular educational institution and were placed on a sweater or sports jacket.

Sunglasses... Of course, men almost never wore them 70 years ago. And if they did, they didn't. Although there are claims that this model of sunglasses was already sold in 1940 by French or Italian manufacturers, as it was seen by other users of this accessory in other black and white photographs. This is supported by a July 1940 photo of actress Yvonne Angarola wearing identical sunglasses, similar to the man's.

Now, on the centennial anniversary of the 1917 revolution, time capsules are being opened everywhere - cheerful messages to posterity, which were laid down by enthusiastic Soviet citizens.

Although the fashion for such greetings from the "bright past" existed not only in the Soviet Union. In the 20th century, this was a craze in many countries: handwritten letters addressed to people of the future, newspaper clippings, commemorative photographs, and the like were placed in boxes or boxes. Most often, they were buried somewhere or poured with concrete in the hope that the descendants would discover the “treasure”.

However, sometimes instead of solemn greetings from of the past dark messages are also found in the capsules. From strange prophecies to corpses, today we will tell you about the most unusual and terrible finds that were discovered in time capsules by the inhabitants of the "bright future".

"I'm dead:" a scary letter from a ghost boy

In the summer of 2016 during construction works A time capsule planted in 1968 was found in a school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Students' letters were in a glass bottle lower grades. This has been practiced throughout the country for many years. As a rule, schoolchildren's letters contain many fantasies about the future. For example, about flying cars.

However, this time the content of one of the messages attracted close attention. Judging by the signature, it was written by a boy named Greg Lee Youngman. However, information about him has not yet been found. There is no record of such a student in the school archive. Even more strange and frightening is the text:

"I'm dead. I go to Montgomery School. This is the old name of the school. I was born in 1900. But now I'm dead. My favorite pastime is scaring the police. I play guitar. It's a board with strings if you don't know. I am 10 years old. See you later, savages."

The frightening message could have been a dark joke from one of the students. Local journalists tried to find the mysterious boy or those who knew him, but their search was unsuccessful.

A grim hello from psychiatrists of the past

In 2015, on the grounds of an abandoned mental hospital in Indiana, USA, workers stumbled upon a time capsule left by psychiatrists from the 1950s. Inside were films recorded by doctors back in 1958. In the footage, experts of the last century talked about the bright prospects for electroconvulsive therapy, and also reflected on how to effectively treat psychosis through artificial insulin shock.

Of course, it is easy to understand the desire of psychiatrists of that time to share their experience with colleagues from the future, but in modern times such treatments cause shivers and only confirm the difficult path of development of psychiatry.

Time capsule in the form of a bomb caused a stir in Manhattan

And this surprise from the past has a completely harmless content, albeit a frightening form. It was discovered in early July 2017 during renovations in Manhattan. Emergency services and sappers were called to the scene, and nearby buildings were evacuated. Soon, however, experts found that the object found, which outwardly resembled a World War II bomb, did not pose any danger. As it turned out, a time capsule with a message to posterity was disguised as a bomb. More than 30 years ago, it was buried in the ground as a joke by the owner of the then popular Danceteria club.

In the 80s of the last century, Danceteria was one of the iconic places in New York. Stars such as Madonna, Billy Idol and Duran Duran performed there. Entrepreneur John Argento, the former owner of the club, admitted that in 1985 he bought a fake bomb in a New York military supply store, collected “messages to the future” from club visitors for three weeks, and then buried it in front of the entrance to the institution.

“It was kind of a joke. We thought someday someone would dig this thing up and think it was an unexploded bomb. Buried and forgotten - went to the next party.

The police carefully examined the contents of the capsule (only letters and photographs were found inside), and then handed it over to the ex-owner of the nightclub.

"Islamic threat and the rise of China": an Australian wrote very true prophecies for the sake of a joke

In the summer of 2017, a resident of Sydney accidentally found a "letter of the times" under the tiles in the bathroom wall. A plastic capsule, which contained photographs and a letter with amazing prophecies, was immured in the wall 22 years ago by a former resident of this house. The content of the letter quite accurately described many global events in the modern world.

Greg Wilkinson wrote his message on Easter Sunday 1995. First, he told the details of his biography and indicated the state of affairs and the cost of goods. daily demand at the time of writing, and then moved on to predictions for the future.

According to his forecast, in the future China was to become a semi-democratic state, reach the level of a superpower and become the main partner of the United States. Interestingly, in 1995, China was inferior to many states in terms of the size of its economy, and now it has risen to second place in the world. Among Greg's predictions are the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also wrote that the growing Islamic radicalism will become global problem, which will develop into a big war, which will end only when "when both sides understand that their God does not want to continue it."

The journalists managed to find Greg Wilkinson, who is now 61 years old. According to him, after writing the letter, he argued with his wife when it would be discovered. He himself was inclined to believe that the letter would be found closer to 2060, while his wife pointed to 2020.

Greetings from Auschwitz: a message from the prisoners of the death camp

In 2009, during construction work to destroy one of the buildings that were part of the Auschwitz concentration camp system, a bottle was discovered with a note signed by seven prisoners. The bottle was immured in the wall of the building, which during the Second World War housed warehouses used by the guards of the death camp.

In a note written in pencil on the label from under a bag of cement and placed in glass bottle, the names and surnames of the prisoners are reported - six Poles and one Frenchman, their personal numbers and place - the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Auschwitz.

“All between the ages of 18 and 20,” reads the note, which was handed over to the museum of concentration camp prisoners.

In 1940-1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest Nazi concentration camp, where people were massacred. The exact number of those who died in Auschwitz is still unknown, since before the onset of the Red Army, the Nazis destroyed all the documentation of the camp, and before leaving Auschwitz they carried out mass executions of prisoners.

It is assumed that millions of people died in the camp: some were tortured and poisoned in gas chambers, others died of starvation and as a result of medical experiments.

Peter Pan's dead brothers

In 2010, an American woman found a travel trunk in the basement of her Los Angeles apartment building that looked like it was at least 80 years old. At first, the woman was very happy, but when she opened the time capsule, her enthusiasm instantly subsided.

Inside were newspapers and other junk from the 1930s, a few books about the adventures of Peter Pan, a fan club membership card for this wonderful children's story, and a few Peter Pan-themed souvenirs. However, the most "bright" contents of the box were the embalmed bodies of two babies wrapped in newspaper.

The most interesting thing is that the name of Janet M. Berry was stamped on the box, which is strikingly consonant with J. M. Berry - the name of the author of everyone's favorite book. This discovery caused a great resonance, the police even conducted a DNA test. However, experts have not identified any relationship between the writer and the corpses in the basement, so the origin of the "dead brothers of Peter Pan" is still a mystery.

Strange sticky find in the garden: a curse or a blessing?

In 2016, a Reddit user from Costa Rica dug up a strange object in his backyard, which was a tightly closed metal container. At first he thought it was money, drugs, or a simple message to posterity from people who once lived here. But when he opened the vessel, it seemed to him that he was in some strange horror movie. The container was filled to the brim with a sweet-smelling, thick, sticky goo in which the photograph floated.

Many Latin Americans believe in brujeria, a special form of magic that uses natural elements. Therefore, the Costa Rican was sure that his find was connected with some kind of magical ritual. When the owner of the house came, he told his tenant that the woman in the photo lived in this house about 15 years ago. He also suggested that she was a victim of corruption or a curse. Then they decided to immediately burn the strange find.

However, some commentators on the Reddit post stated that it may not have been a corruption at all. Judging by the sweet smell of the contents in the jar, it could be honey, and the ritual itself was carried out more as a blessing, in order to “sweeten life” for the couple shown in the photograph.

Mothballed Parisian apartment as a time capsule

The next message from the past is different from the rest. This is a spacious apartment in Paris, full of dusty personal items, exquisite furniture and art that has stood untouched since 1939. When you look at this interior, you get the impression that the time machine has taken you to another era. A luxury apartment discovered in Paris in 2010 has remained untouched for seven decades.

The owner of the apartment, a French actress, fled Paris at the very beginning of World War II and never returned there. For 70 years, she continued to pay the rent of the apartment, but she did not tell any of her relatives about her. Relatives learned about the abandoned housing after the death of a woman at the age of 91.

The experts described all the belongings in the apartment, among which many personal items were found, such as hairbrushes and letters. In addition to them, other interesting objects were also found: a life-size stuffed ostrich or Mickey Mouse. The media dubbed the unusual apartment a "time capsule".

“It feels like we are in the Sleeping Beauty's castle, where time stopped more than a hundred years ago,” admitted auctioneer Olivier Chopin-Janvie, who conducted the opening of the apartment.

Everything around was as if frozen - at one moment the experts seemed to have stepped into the past. The air was filled with dust and there were cobwebs everywhere. A heavy dressing table and curtains, huge mirrors entirely in curls, ornate armchairs - all this transfers not even to the beginning of the 1940s, but to the beginning of the 20th century.

Eyes and nails in a teapot: greetings from the Japanese at Expo 70 Capsule

In 1970, electronics giant Panasonic built a teapot capsule in the Japanese city of Osaka that was supposed to stay closed for 5,000 years. The main container was filled with a layer of inert argon gas to protect the contents, but project leaders have also built a second, "control" capsule, which will be periodically opened, inspected and cleaned to help keep the project alive.

The first discovery of one of the most famous time capsules in the world already took place in 2000, and the rest will occur at intervals of 100 years. In total, each capsule contains a cargo of 2,098 culturally significant objects. If the two modern-day capsules survive until their scheduled opening date of 6970 AD, their future owners will find an extensive collection of films, seeds, and microorganisms, as well as the glassy eyes and blackened fingernails of survivors of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
