Signal analyzers

One of the tasks of the analyzer is to process the signal emitted by the metal detector coil and convert it into a metal alarm signal. A metal object passing by the detector coil distorts the electromagnetic field created by the coil, which is registered by the analyzer and converted into a corresponding signal.
The analyzers have an automatic adaptive adjustment that guarantees reliable operation even if there are interfering metal parts near the detector coil. This adaptive adjustment operates so that only moving metal parts are detected.

The MU 3300 signal analyzer has a self-monitoring mode: as soon as an error is detected in the system, a relay is activated at the analyzer output. The measuring electronics are housed in a robust metal housing, which has a window for the function indicator.

The KS031-DS… 2-terminal cable is an extension cable that provides a waterproof connection between the detector coil and the MDV… or MDU… analyzer.
The special connection cable KS031 is designed for metal detectors of the 3000 series. Due to its rigid construction and a resistant polyurethane sheath, the cable does not create “cable noise” that can cause false analyzer alarms.

The detector coils are mounted on PVC poles on an aluminum carrier plate that shields the coils from electromagnetic interference from structures underneath. The panel simultaneously guarantees a stable mounting position. If it is required to place the detector coil near steel parts, for example, aluminum plates can be used as a screen between the coil and steel parts.

The detection coils are located mainly under the conveyor belt, which reduces the risk of mechanical damage. The distance to the transport rolls of the tape must be at least the width of the reel. In order to optimally use the sensitivity of the metal detector, it is necessary to maintain a metal-free environment of the detector coil at a distance of 1.5 to 2 of its diameters.

When suspended above the conveyor belt, care must be taken that the steel parts of the structure are not too close to the reel and especially that they do not vibrate. In such cases, it is necessary to reduce the sensitivity and take into account that as a result, the metal detection distance will also decrease or only large metal parts will be detected.

Recommendations for the selection of metal detector system components

1. When choosing a metal detecting frame (detector coil), it is important to consider the width of the conveyor belt and the placement of material on it. If material is to be placed across the full width of the conveyor belt, it is important that the width of the detector coil completely covers the width of the belt. In the event that the width of the coil is not sufficient, two coils with different types of windings (Type A and Type B) of the required width can be used, which are connected by a junction box (see figure);
2. It is also important to consider the thickness of the material on the conveyor belt. If the material on the belt is too thick, additional spools must be used above the conveyor belt (see figure). In this case, it is also possible to use two coils with different types of windings (Type A and type B) of the required width, which are connected using a junction box;
3. For reliable detection of metal particles in the material, it is important to consider the distance from the material on the tape to the detector coil. If the distance is too large, small metal parts may be unreliably recognized even if the sensitivity of the analyzer is increased. According to the presented graphs (in the descriptions of the presented signal analyzers), it is possible to determine the ratio of the size of a metal object to the distance to the coil, which guarantees reliable metal detection (see “graph of the curve of the dependence of the analyzer response on the size of the metal object”).
4. With an unstable supply voltage, it is strongly recommended to use it in order to avoid voltage surges and, as a result, a possible failure of the detector electronics.
