How to set up a maggot breeding business for sale to anglers. Features of entrepreneurial activity for the production and sale of maggots for fishing Equipment for breeding maggots

It is rare for a man to deny himself the pleasure of spending a couple of hours fishing by the river. About 25% of the representatives of the stronger sex, being ardent lovers of fishing, are ready to spend the lion's share of their salary on gear and equipment. Moreover, as the men themselves say, an important role for them is played not by the result in the form of the number and size of fish caught, but by the process. Therefore, the idea of creating a business for breeding maggots for fishing could not slip past enterprising people. If you want to start your own business, then this type of entrepreneurship is just what you need. In this article, we will look at how to breed maggots and do it competently.

What is maggot

Before talking about money and prospects, it is worth understanding what this creature is. Use good bait to lure the fish. Despite the emergence of modern fishing techniques and technologies, live bait fishing is the most popular, especially among conservative fishermen. It is the larvae that continue to be consistently popular with most fishermen. This factor explains the benefits that the process of breeding maggots implies. It is cheap in terms of cost, easy and profitable.

Advantages and "pitfalls" of the maggot breeding business

If you have decided to create such a business, you will have to familiarize yourself with its positive aspects, because it is they who make this line of business as in demand and popular as possible.

    1. The minimum amount of capital to start an activity.
    2. High level of turnover and business profitability.
    3. High speed of production of the "product" - the formation of maggots.
    4. Ability to work at home.
    5. No need for specialized knowledge and skills.

Are there any downsides to this business?

Like any other type of business, breeding maggots has a number of negative aspects.

  1. Insufficient quality aesthetic side of the issue. After all, you have to deal with an unpleasant smell and work with meat, larvae, flies.
  2. The need to develop a personal production scheme. Despite the simplicity of doing business, there is no universal "recipe". Therefore, you will have to develop a personal approach to this type of activity.

Actually, if you "close your eyes" to the probable shortcomings of this type of business, you can achieve a good result and very soon reach a decent profit.

How to breed maggots: stages and sequence of actions

So, how to breed maggot at home? This is quite easy to do if you follow certain steps. The scheme is simple, the main thing is to follow it in full rigor.

Room equipment

It is necessary to specially allocate a room in which several boards will be installed, as well as containers or special containers, in which the process of laying the larvae will take place.

  1. The first important point, which plays a critical role, is the need to set the optimal temperature and ventilation mode. Maggots will thrive at 25 degrees Celsius and 50% humidity.
  2. It is important to ensure the room is ventilated. It should not be very strong, but must be present. The fact is that in the course of life, creatures emit a huge amount of ammonia, which is toxic.
  3. It is important to divide the room into two parts - upper and lower. In the first compartment there will be feeding for adult flies, and in the second - a place intended for laying larvae. Therefore, in the second case, it is important to pay attention to the presence of holes through which the larvae can enter their compartment. This is the most important criterion on which the convenience of breeding technology depends.
  4. Since the cultivation of maggots is carried out using sawdust, it is necessary to prepare this material in sufficient quantities. This need is due to the fact that it is necessary to ensure the absorption of excess moisture from the larvae.

If breeding is provided for the summer season, you can use a special option that involves the use of plastic bottles. You need to cut the container into two parts. Sawdust is added to the bottom of the lower element. It remains to wait until the flies flock to them, and expect the larvae.

Breeding maggots at home

Providing food for flies and maggots

Considering the question of how to grow maggot at home, it is worth going directly to the second option. It involves providing the flies with proper nutrition, which will allow the maggots to be fat, fat and have a marketable appearance. In this case, everything that rots and deteriorates is used - leftovers, products made from flour, milk, rotten vegetables or meat. It is best to use meat products - the insides that remain after cutting the carcasses of animals or poultry. You can negotiate with rural facilities. They will only be happy to get rid of waste with minimal effort.

Features of reproduction of maggot

This is the third stage of starting your business. Rotten meat or any other chosen food will attract flies, which will not only feed on it, but also lay their larvae. During the day, the average number of larvae from one fly will be 300 units. Then it remains only to “transfer” the maggots to a new place, into large plastic containers. On an industrial scale, boxes up to 5 m are used for these purposes. One container contributes to the production of up to 6 liters of larvae. In 1 week, your product will “ripen” and acquire a marketable appearance. This indicates that he is ready for sale.

Now we will talk about the process of removing maggot. To do this, the fly food is lifted over the containers and then shaken. The larvae go into the prepared container and then are sieved for the cleaning process. Further, maggots are waiting for the process of sending to retail facilities, stored in containers in which sawdust is present. As already noted, they are necessary to remove excess moisture.

Features of storage of maggots

How maggot breeding occurs at home, the video can best describe. An important role is played by the solution of the issue related to the storage of "goods". As noted earlier, they are ready for sale 7-8 days after the start of preparation. When this time is up, it will be necessary to collect them for storage purposes so that the larvae cannot burrow into the sawdust to later turn into pupae and give birth to flies. Extraction can be done manually (you will need to use gloves for this) or by sifting through a sieve.

Maggot storage option

After that, it will remain to scatter the larvae into jars in which fresh sawdust lies, moist enough, and then place them in the refrigerators. The process of storing larvae should be carried out within the framework of the optimal temperature, which is in the range from -4 to -21 degrees. Under such conditions, storage can be carried out up to a monthly period. During this period, the goods must be fully sold. Otherwise, it will lose its attractive presentation not only for fishermen, but also for fish.

Features of the vital activity of maggot

Depending on the characteristics of nutrition, maggot can change its own color characteristics. For example, from the use of egg white, the larvae acquire a white color, which, in fact, is natural for them. If they eat the yolk, their color turns yellow. If the coloring element rhodamine is added to the food, the color characteristic will turn red. In addition, these creatures can change not only color, but also aroma. If you want your "living creatures" to smell more pleasant, it is worth supplying the sawdust with a small amount of anise oil.

Features of the sale of larvae

Thus, breeding maggots is quite simple if you follow the general rules and recommendations. Moreover, in the Russian Federation this niche is almost free, and most retail outlets are forced to import this product from Poland, which implies additional costs. Sales can be carried out in person through retail sales, for this a special store is opened. It is also possible to establish sales through the store on the Internet. If you want to produce maggots in large quantities, you can set up wholesale sales by offering goods to existing trading facilities. They will be only too happy to switch suppliers, especially if it means lowering the cost of purchasing.

How to breed maggots: the financial side of the issue

As for the financial side of the issue, it is utterly simple, if you follow the general rules and conditions.

Initial capital

Business involves expenses only for renting a room (for a small room of 15 sq. M., an amount of 10,000 rubles per month is required), the purchase of equipment (the amount is insignificant and amounts to about 5,000 rubles) and a few other small things (up to 3,000 rubles). There are virtually no marketing costs, since such a product does not need bright outdoor advertising or advertising in the mass media. In total, the total start-up costs consist of the purchase of the necessary equipment and material (containers, sawdust, fly food) and amount to 8,000 rubles.

Monthly costs

As for monthly expenses, they consist of expenses for renting a room (10,000 rubles), as well as the purchase of "consumables" in the amount of about 3,000 rubles. The total amount is 13,000 rubles.

Profit and payback

On average, in the regions of Russia, as practice shows, in such a business you can earn about 30,000 rubles a month. If we subtract from this amount the total costs of doing business, then the net profit will be 17,000 rubles. If the entrepreneur successfully copes with the creation and implementation of the first "batch" of maggots, then you can count on the minimum payback period, the value of which is equal to:

8,000 / 13,000 = 0.615 months.

That is, it turns out that a little more than two weeks the entrepreneur will be able to receive a full profit from the implementation of his activities. If you decide to start breeding odorless maggots at home, for example, in the pantry of the house, then the costs are reduced and the profit is greater. Therefore, you can count on getting a good income after a week, when the first "batch" of goods is ready.

Undoubtedly, this type of business requires a lot of effort, trouble and endurance, but there is another, more pleasant side of the detail - this is the first income with minimal loss of time.

Many people, thinking about which area of the national economy to start their business in, consider pigs and other animals as an idea. Owners of country houses located near natural or artificial reservoirs are trying to develop. To implement such a project, they do not need to have too much start-up capital, the main thing is to find a place, buy fry and always keep food available, for example, worms or maggots.

What types of maggots can be bred at home?

If an entrepreneur plans to breed maggot on an industrial scale, then he must first decide on the type of this fish bait. To get started, he needs to find a territory where containers with larvae can be placed. If fishing does not require the construction of any premises, then with maggots the situation is a little more complicated.

In the process of fishing, the following types of maggots are commonly used:

  • ordinary (room);
  • green;
  • meat (blue).

Starting the cultivation of maggot on an industrial scale, you should opt for the species that is more in demand among fishermen. For example, ordinary larvae are not in high demand, as they are too small, which causes problems when they are baited on a hook.

Features of breeding meat maggot

If a novice entrepreneur decides to breed meat maggot on an industrial scale, then he needs to create special conditions for him. On a personal plot, a ready-made outbuilding should be erected or allocated. Inside, you need to create conditions that are as close as possible to home. It is imperative to resolve the issue of space heating, especially in the cold season. This is necessary so that the processes of decay in the remains of food are not inhibited due to temperature fluctuations. It is necessary to place meat and other food remains in the equipped room and make sure that flies get into it. After that, the doors need to be tightly closed and let nature do its thing. Literally in a week, the entrepreneur will be able to collect his first "harvest" and transfer it for sale.

How to equip the room?

Most suburban residents plan to expand their business. After studying various projects, they opt for worms and maggots. The process of breeding maggots on an industrial scale provides for the observance of certain technologies.

Advice: the room in which maggots will arise and develop should be located as far as possible from residential buildings. This is due to the fact that during the processes of decay of meat and other food residues, a strong stench arises (a sharp smell of ammonia).

In the room that will be allocated for breeding maggots on an industrial scale, the following conditions must be created:

  1. It is important to keep the humidity in the range of 50-70%.
  2. The room must be hermetically sealed to prevent the entry of foreign insects.
  3. The temperature regime should fluctuate in the range of 23-25 degrees.
  4. The room should have windows through which it can be ventilated (this should not be done too often).

Breeding maggots on an industrial scale in the summer can be done outdoors. To do this, in the far corner of the personal plot, you need to install several containers in which biological waste must be placed. Having launched flies into them, you should close the lids and wait a few days before collecting the first batch of maggot.

Advice: one fly is capable of laying about 300 larvae. This nuance should be taken into account by an entrepreneur who plans to start a business on maggots.

What can you feed flies?

When planning a business for breeding maggots on an industrial scale, an entrepreneur must decide in advance the issue of food for flies. In order for them to lay healthy larvae, they need to be well fed. An entrepreneur does not need to constantly buy chic meat tenderloins, since it is quite enough to constantly collect leftovers from the table and place them in a specially equipped room. Dairy products, flour products, boiled eggs, meat trimmings, in particular, skin, bones and other by-products remaining after butchering animals, can be used as feeding for flies.

Advice: a novice entrepreneur can negotiate with any farm engaged in the cultivation and processing of poultry or other animals. He will be happy to give all the waste, since it is necessary to spend money on their disposal.

If the breeding of maggots on an industrial scale has begun to bear the first fruits, the entrepreneur should think about their storage, packaging and transportation.

Before starting such a business, people should learn everything about the conditions for breeding, keeping and storing maggots. If instead they nevertheless decided to breed larvae, then they should know that it is in their power to change not only the color of the maggot, but also its smell. Some types of worms are very fond of fish, so they are very popular among true connoisseurs of fishing. Despite such popularity, entrepreneurs still need to think about the constant expansion of the sales market even at the first stages of business development.

In contact with

Often entrepreneurial people would like to start their own business. To do this, they are looking for fresh ideas, occupy certain new niches, write advanced business plans. In a word, they do everything to succeed in their chosen direction. But sometimes it happens that you don’t have to look far for an idea for your own successful enterprise. It is to such ideas that the maggot business belongs.

In a sense, this is even a unique case, since its idea is literally underfoot, if not in the mud. Today we will talk about how to establish this enterprise, what can be expected from it, what positive and negative sides it has.

Maggot: business from nothing

First you need to understand what a maggot is. Avid fishermen know that there is nothing better for baiting fish. New technologies are developing, different types of baits appear, but nevertheless, it is fly larvae that are consistently popular with the vast majority of fishing enthusiasts.

What is so beneficial breeding maggots? As already mentioned, this is a very simple and unpretentious matter.

First, it requires almost no investment. Fly larvae breeding can be done at home. Of course, this should take place on a suburban area or in a village. For such purposes, you need to acquire a barn or some kind of fenced off area.

The main thing that you have to put up with is the fetid smell in the place where the breeding will take place. However, practice shows that this circumstance does not stop many people at all. Yes, and a good hood partly saves the situation.

Getting to the equipment of the room

In a specially designated room, it is necessary to install several boards, large containers or containers, in which, in fact, the larvae will be deposited. The first important aspect that lies in wait for the maggot breeder already at this stage is the need to establish a suitable temperature and ventilation. Maggots need an average air temperature (not higher than 25 degrees), a humidity of 50%, and good ventilation. It must be emphasized that it (ventilation) should not be too strong, but nevertheless it must be, because in the process of its development, maggots emit a large amount of ammonia. And it's known to be toxic. In addition, maggots do not like very bright light.

Relatively speaking, the room where it is planned to breed larvae should be divided into two parts: on top there will be feeding for adult flies, on the bottom - a place for laying larvae and rearing them. Therefore, the upper "floor" with top dressing should have minimal holes through which the larvae will enter their compartment. At the same time, maggots are grown on sawdust, so you will have to stock up on this material. This is due to the need to absorb excess moisture from the larvae.

For the summer season, you can additionally use the following option. To do this, you only need plastic bottles. They are cut into two parts. A cork is unscrewed from the top with a neck, then it is turned upside down. Sawdust is placed at the bottom of the lower part, top dressing is placed in the upper part. It remains only to put the bottles in the sun, let the flies flock to them and wait for the "harvest" of larvae. The only thing that is bad about this method is that it will not be a selected variety of larvae.

How to feed flies that will lay larvae?

There are several subtleties here. First you need to decide what kind of maggots you would like to get at the exit. Every knowledgeable person will say that there are simple, small maggots, and there are thick ones, also called "meat". You can feed flies with anything: flour, spoiled vegetables, boiled chicken eggs, fish, cottage cheese. However, the most fleshy and largest maggots will be obtained if you feed the flies with meat. For this, there is no need to use fresh meat that is suitable for food. It may be a damaged product. But offal is best suited: liver, heart, stomach and other things that remain when cutting any animal. The same, but only in crushed form, it is necessary to feed the maggots themselves.

It is not so difficult to "get" such remains. You can negotiate with local farmers who, for a symbolic price, will gladly give substandard goods or a second-class product. It is especially good if there is an individual farm with animals. You can make waste-free and environmentally friendly production.

As for the type of fly that will lay the larvae, it doesn't matter logically what they will be. If it comes to rationality and productivity, then, without a doubt, you need to choose a special type of fly. Among them are Calliphora vormitoria (meat gray fly), Calliphora vicina (meat blue fly). These are the largest flies.

A distinctive feature of this business is that you can produce products in unlimited quantities, while receiving a new batch every 6-7 days. Already on the 3-4th day, you can remove the larvae from the sawdust to prevent them from turning into "pupae" and going deep into the tank. It is important not to miss this moment, because no one needs an overripe product.

Storage of larvae

Now it's time to separate the maggots into jars. To do this, they are carefully sifted out, then placed in a container with moistened sawdust and placed in the refrigerator. The ideal temperature for their storage is minus 2 degrees. It is under such conditions that maggot is stored for the longest time. This is a generally accepted European standard. On average, the shelf life of finished and already packaged products is 3-4 weeks.

Additional details

If you want to please consumers with different preferences, then you can tint and flavor the maggot. So, to tint the maggot, it is necessary to use a special dye "Sudan-3" or "Sudan-4". It will give the larvae a reddish tint. You need to add dye to the food of maggots. For flavor, you can add anise oil, which is very attractive to fish.

How to arrange sales of products?

This type of business seems very simple, but still this niche is almost empty. Many fishing shops work with suppliers from Poland. They even benefit from such a purchase of goods. Customs costs and other costs do not become a minus in such a situation. Therefore, a completely logical question is brewing: why not buy maggots from domestic producers? After all, one such supplier will be able to cover the needs of one or two fishing shops. In this case, you do not have to overpay for delivery from afar.

According to statistics, a small fishing shop sells about two kilograms of maggots per week. Approximately the same amount, on average, can be grown even by the smallest breeder of larvae. This form of small business can bring a serious and quick income.

Many fishing shops are willing to cooperate with individual maggot breeders. Firstly, they can always be sure of the freshness of the received goods. Secondly, you do not need to overpay for transportation. It becomes quite clear that there will be no problems with the sale of maggots. You just need to offer your services to a number of fishing shops. By the way, most of them prefer to give their profit "after the fact", that is, after the sale of a batch of maggots. This is a fairly common pattern. Unsold goods are returned to the supplier.

For a number of well-known reasons, including low financial security, many of us are constantly looking for additional sources of income. There was, is, and will remain an urgent need for funds. It would seem that it is impossible to find a way out of this situation. However, as you know, any issue, including money, can be resolved. In this case, the ideal tool in achieving the goal (additional income) is a small business.

To date, many have been proposed that can be implemented. However, most of them require a significant initial capital, an appropriate material base (a workshop, various expensive units, and so on), a workforce and other components of the business. Naturally, all this delays the payback period of the implemented idea.

There are ideas, the implementation of which does not require all of the above. At the same time, they are so obvious and simple that when you learn about them, you can burst with laughter, while asking yourself the question, how could I have not guessed about this before. And indeed, if you wish, you can earn on what is actually under our feet. This article will step by step consider the process of implementing a business that is associated with the breeding and sale of maggots. This type of business is especially relevant for those who have never been engaged in entrepreneurial activity.

It is known that fishing is a favorite outdoor activity for many of us. Fishing, as we know, requires a certain type of bait. The range of such goods on the market today is quite wide.

Fish can be caught both in natural reservoirs and at paid rates. Many fishermen in the process of fishing use a worm (see the article "") or maggot as bait. This is due to the fact that many species of fish prefer to eat these particular baits. At the same time, this bait is mainly used by amateurs, who occupy the main share in the general structure of fishermen.

Fans often stock up on this type of bait before fishing, that is, they buy it in the relevant retail outlets. No matter how sad it may sound, but there are cases when maggot is not on sale for a number of reasons. You just don't understand the frustration of an avid fisherman if you're not one yourself.

The reasons for the lack of maggots on sale are different, but before talking about them, we first note that maggots are mainly imported from Poland. As for the immediate main reasons for such a regrettable moment, the leading among them are the difficulties that arise when goods cross the border. The second reason is a small number (in some regions, absence) of entrepreneurs who would regularly supply the market with maggots.

In the absence of maggots, you can get by with worms. However, digging worms requires a trip to various places, that is, a waste of time or a need, and they are also in short supply.

Live maggot can also be replaced with an artificial counterpart, but it is less effective as a bait.

All of the above confirms the prospects of the business associated with breeding maggots at home and their implementation. This is also evidenced by the experience of Polish entrepreneurs. After all, they would not be engaged in such a business if they did not have income from it.

We have dealt with the state of this type of entrepreneurial activity. Now let's go directly to the process of implementing a business idea, which we will consider step by step.

First, we note that before embarking on the implementation of this business, it would be useful to study specialized literature, look at this topic on one of the fishing forums. In particular, it is necessary to gain theoretical knowledge on the life cycle of flies. Recall that the maggot is represented by a fly larva. Also, to start such a business, you will need a building (a prerequisite is the constancy of the temperature in the building), for example, a barn. That is, it turns out that the business associated with the breeding and sale of maggots is more feasible in the private sector. It will be problematic to do business in an apartment. And this is said softly.

The first step that will allow you to implement a business related to the cultivation and sale of maggots should be to find a suitable premises. In this business, the premises must be able to maintain the optimum temperature. Naturally, at the same stage, the room must be prepared accordingly. This point is important in that unsuitable conditions for flies and maggots can cause a collapse in such a business.

By themselves, flies are an unpretentious species of insects, but flies are very sensitive to temperature, on which, in turn, the number of oviposition is strongly dependent. To a lesser extent, temperature affects the size of the eggs and, accordingly, the maggots themselves.

To create an optimal microclimate, you can purchase a complete ventilation system, but this approach is associated with high costs. Therefore, it is more rational to equip the room with simpler household appliances, temperature sensors that can automatically turn on / off the home-made system. By the way - the most expensive item is connected with the ventilation system. But one cannot do without ventilation in such a business, since a large number of fly larvae are released in the process of breeding fly larvae.

It is more practical and more economical to keep flies in two boxes. It is quite simple to build them with your own hands, but in any case they will need to be covered with a fine mesh. As for the size of the box, it should be 100 × 100 cm. The bottom should be solid. To breed maggots, you will need to have several bags filled with sawdust. Also, for these purposes, plastic containers will be required - no more than 4.

Here is everything you need to do in the first step to the full implementation of the business associated with breeding and selling maggots.

Let's move on to the second step in the implementation of our current business activities.

In particular, it is necessary to think about the substrate, which is vital for the normal life of flies. Dead chickens may be suitable for this purpose. Where can you get them? If you do not have your own, then you can always agree with the specialists of poultry farms. It is also lucky if an entrepreneur breeds chickens nearby. A neighbor can become a source of substrate. In any case, it is necessary to strive to ensure that the supply of chickens is constant.

This is interesting : read our other articles - "", "" and "".

The third step is related to obtaining the required number of flies. In this regard, two practical approaches can be used simultaneously. In particular, to combine the production of adults from pre-acquired larvae with the capture of flies at livestock facilities.

Such a symbiosis is optional. It is quite possible to get by with one practical approach, since in both cases, under all conditions, the same adults are obtained. However, fly trapping is less expensive in this business, but requires some effort.

The fourth step to the implementation of this profitable business is related to the search for a substrate for laying eggs. One experienced entrepreneur in this field advises using butchered chicken for this purpose, which is placed in a box with flies. After a certain time, the substrate with eggs must be transferred to plastic containers, which must first be filled with sawdust. Under such conditions, the larvae hatch and develop to the required condition, that is, to implementation.

The main problem in the process of growing maggots is their death. Often losses can reach 50% or more. To exclude this moment, it is necessary to create all the appropriate conditions necessary for the normal development of fly larvae. For example, larvae are very sensitive to humidity and temperature. Also, for this purpose, the process of rotting of the substrate (meat) should be slowed down.

We will upset you a little. It will not be possible to obtain commercial maggots with a large yield in the first stages until the optimal scheme is worked out.

As for the fourth step in the implementation of such a business, it is associated with the sale of maggots.

Establishing the sale of maggots is quite simple. This product will be taken with pleasure at any outlet that specializes in the sale of lures and baits. However, in this case, the store will give the money only after the sale of maggots.

You can also sell maggots through your small trading facility, but this approach is less relevant, as it requires the cost of a retail outlet and a significant amount of goods.

One of the ways of implementation can be private individuals who will order fly larvae from you. With the right approach to business, you will have your regular customers.

It is enough to grab the maggots and head to the place where the fishermen gather. Already in this case, the larvae will be swept away instantly, especially if the bite is planned to be good.

Tip: before selling the fly larvae, keep them in the refrigerator, which will give them a marketable appearance.

Like any other business, growing and selling maggots has its pros and cons.

Let's start with the positives. Firstly, such a business does not require large initial investments, that is, start-up capital is minimized.

Secondly, as the practice of foreign entrepreneurs has shown, such a business is characterized by high turnover and profitability.

Thirdly, the business associated with breeding and selling maggots is applicable to home conditions.

As for the minuses, we will single out only two main ones. Firstly, it is currently not possible to find a description of the technological process of reproduction of flies on the Internet. That is, before you get a positive result, you will need to make a number of unsuccessful attempts.

Maggot is an indispensable fishing tackle for most lovers of sitting with a fishing rod .... Scientifically, a maggot is called a fly larva. In fishing shops selling baits and baits for fish, you can find larvae of three types: the blue blowfly, the green fly, and the common housefly. The larvae of the latter are very small and not very convenient for the nozzle. The method of growing all species is absolutely the same.

Growing technology

The industrial production of maggot is very specific and does not look as simple as it seems at first glance.

To obtain maggots, securely closed rooms are used to prevent foreign flies and other unnecessary living creatures from entering them. The temperature in the room should be warm (+24-27 degrees) and constant. Flies are fed sugar and other sweet food. Then pieces of meat are placed in the room, in which the flies lay their eggs in heaps. Within a day, a decent number of larvae is obtained from each pile: from 200 to 500 pieces.

The larvae are then placed in large containers up to 5 meters wide. From one such container, up to 50 liters of maggots are obtained. The larvae are fed with the meat of animals, birds or fish. In just 7 days, a commercial maggot grows from a small larva. From 100 kg of meat you can grow 50 liters of maggot. In order for the maggot to be red (and by default, it is white), a special dye is added to the meat - rhodamine B.

The final stage is the collection and sorting of maggots. As soon as the larvae have gained the desired weight, the pieces of meat rise above the assembly containers, into which the maggot falls. The larvae are then sifted through a sieve to remove impurities. Ready-to-sell maggots are placed in small boxes of sawdust and sent to the shelves of fishing stores.

How much can you earn?

If you find a wholesale buyer of maggots in large volumes, the business will bring good income. In what other agricultural business can you grow 300-500 kg of finished, and far from cheap, products from nothing in 7 days?

The cost of one liter of maggot at the wholesale price is at least 900 rubles. For 7 days from 1 ton of meat we can get 500 liters of maggot. In a week, the revenue will amount to 450 thousand rubles.

In England, some farmers give out simply unrealistic volumes - up to 20,000 liters of maggot per week. If translated into our rubles, it turns out simply cosmic profits: up to 18 million rubles. On an ordinary fly larva. And you say the most profitable business is oil and coffee ...

Pitfalls of business

Despite all the profitability of the business, the complexity of its organization can be the very stumbling block that will stop most start-up entrepreneurs.

Here are just a few of the reasons why industrial maggot cultivation is not an easy task:

1. Strong smell. Fly larvae emit incredible amounts of sulfur dioxide and ammonia. This smell is not only very unpleasant, but also harmful to humans. It is for this reason that European countries closed most of the farms that used the simplest maggot production technologies.

2. Labor force. Not everyone will agree to work in such a specific production. Therefore, either you have to pay high wages, or be prepared for high staff turnover.

3. Where can I get raw materials for cultivation? Also a relevant question. It will require a weekly supply of tons of meat. Buying fresh meat is expensive, you need to look for a not quite fresh product. Perhaps, butcher shops, livestock complexes and other enterprises whose activities are related to the turnover of meat and poultry products will help to resolve this issue.

4. Search for marketing channels for maggots. It is not easy to sell 1000 liters of maggot. Here you have two ways to sell maggot: sell it to wholesale dealers at reduced prices, or arrange supplies to retail chains on your own. The second option is more profitable, but will require huge labor and time costs. Good managers are indispensable. You will need to drive around hundreds of fishing shops, and possibly in more than one major city. And not everywhere you will be received with open arms. Most stores have been working with reliable maggot suppliers for a long time, and they are satisfied with everything.
