Along with a thorough restoration of the external appearance of the building, a complete functional re-equipment of the internal premises was carried out with modern engineering equipment in accordance with the concept of “intelligent building”, the introduction of climatology and air conditioning systems, and the creation of the ability to connect electronic office equipment and control systems.

Gostiny Dvor is one of the largest centers of business, trade and recreation with all the necessary services, equipped to international standards. The complex houses shops, restaurants, banks, cafes, etc. While practically maintaining the same appearance of the building, the usable area was increased. Now there are plans to build a hotel that will close the ring of hotels around the Kremlin.

Gostiny Dvor in Moscow is one of the most beautiful architectural structures in the capital, located in the historical center of the city, 150 m from the Kremlin. This is the largest Moscow shopping complex of the late 18th century. It occupies the entire block and is unique not only for its location, but also for the originality of its architectural design. Its arcades are decorated with semi-columns of the Ionic order. The courtyard occupies approximately 12 thousand m2, and the area of ​​the entire building is 82 thousand m2. The air temperature in the courtyard is the same all year round - 18 °C. There are plans to build a hotel in the future.

History of the Moscow Gostiny Dvor

The name of Gostiny Dvor is derived from the word “guest”. This is what merchants who carried out foreign and wholesale trade were called in earlier times. The place where Gostiny Dvor is located was an important trading center back in the 15th century. By decision of Boris Godunov, merchants and artisans who had previously worked on the territory of the Kremlin lived and stored their goods there. The shopping arcades were wooden and burned during the Time of Troubles, then they were restored in stone, and by the end of the 17th century there were already several dozen of them.

However, in 1770, a dozen and a half shops suddenly collapsed, and by 1786 the market had completely fallen into disrepair. Then it was decided to erect a new building in the same block. The Gostiny Dvor project was developed by Giacomo Quarenghi in 1789. It was designed for horizontal terrain, but in reality the place has a strong slope, so it was not possible to implement the project in its original form.

The project was slightly modified by S. A. Karin and I. A. Selekhov, and construction began in 1791. At that time, Gostiny Dvor consisted of two parts, separated by a step. One part of it looked out onto Ilyinka Street, and the other onto Varvarka Street. Some arches were raised, but in other places, on the contrary, the columns had to be shortened. Despite all this, the main idea of ​​Quarenghi's project was preserved.

It was from Gostiny Dvor that the fire of 1812 began. The building was then heavily damaged by fire. By 1830, construction of the second stage was completed, and parts of Gostiny Dvor were connected. Unfortunately, very soon the owners of the shops changed its appearance: they unauthorizedly laid arches in order to increase the area of ​​​​the premises.

In 1840, a new Gostiny Dvor was built next door, so the first one began to be called “old”. In 1903, the risalit, located in Khrustalny Lane, was remodeled according to the design of the architect K. K. Gippius. Its new façade was designed in a neoclassical style using colored mosaics.

Contemporaries really liked the appearance of Gostiny Dvor in Moscow, and similar buildings began to appear in other cities of Russia. It was here that the idea of ​​organizing sales of remaining goods at discounts arose, which later spread throughout the world.

During Soviet times, Gostiny Dvor was an administrative building. After 1923, no repairs were carried out, so by the end of the 20th century the building fell into disrepair. There was a threat of complete destruction of the architectural monument. Therefore, in the 1990s - 2000s, a grandiose reconstruction was carried out. The authors of the projector were S. Tkachenko, N. Posokhin and A. Kuzmin. Several floors were built over the part facing Varvarka, a transparent roof was erected over the courtyard, and an attic was erected over the entire structure. Not everyone liked such transformations: many city residents felt that the building now looked bulky. The stunning impression the building makes now can be understood from the presented photos of Gostiny Dvor in Moscow.

During the reconstruction, many interesting archaeological finds were discovered, such as precious vessels, ancient coins and remains of ancient buildings. All this is kept in the archaeological museum, which is located in Gostiny Dvor itself. The museum was founded by the decision of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and opened in 2002; admission is free for single tourists. A cemetery belonging to the Golden-Domed Church was also found. The remains from it were transferred to the Spiritual Orthodox Center. In the shops of the Moscow Gostiny Dvor, you can bargain and buy branded items at big discounts.

Fashion Week was held at Gostiny Dvor from March 20 to 25, 2018. The event opened with a show of the “Moscow Winter” collection from Valentin Yudashkin. The event was attended by domestic fashion designers and manufacturers: Sergey Sysoev, Teplitskaja Design, Lisa Romanyuk, Olga Kunitsyna, Gennady Gorbachev, Svetlana Evstigneeva, Imperial couture, Crimean Fur Factory and others. Alexandra Stepanets became a fashion week debutant. The football theme, relevant in connection with the FIFA World Cup, is reflected in the collection of Artem Krivda. "Confectioner's World 2018"

From April 18 to 20, the specialized exhibition “World of Confectioner 2018” is being held in Moscow at Gostiny Dvor. The largest manufacturers of confectionery and bakery products participate in it, reflecting the latest market trends. Not only a large assortment of sweets will be presented, but also drinks, ingredients for baking and cakes, the latest culinary technologies, industrial equipment, packaging samples and much more. Also from April 18 to 20, the V International Exhibition of Landscape Architecture and Floriculture “Interflora 2018” is taking place in Gostiny Dvor. It will present materials, technologies and services that may be of interest to owners of suburban areas, landscape architects, builders, and representatives of housing and communal services departments. The exhibition will cover issues of plant care, production of planting material, selection, garden design, storage, logistics and special education. As part of the exhibition, there will be a fair "Dacha. Garden. Vegetable Garden", where you can look at and buy goods for a country estate: furniture, planting material, sports and gardening equipment, building materials, etc. Guests will be able to attend master classes on floristry and landscaping design. Viennese Ball

On May 26, 2018, the 16th Viennese Ball will take place at Gostiny Dvor in Moscow. Over seven years, 900 architectural monuments have been restored in Moscow. As a result, the number of cultural heritage sites in unsatisfactory condition has decreased by more than five times.

Opened the International specialized exhibition on the preservation, restoration, use and popularization of cultural heritage “Denkmal, Russia - Moscow - 2017”.

“I am glad to welcome our colleagues from Germany, Italy, France, Austria and other countries to this exhibition. “Denkmal, Russia - Moscow” has become a really good tradition. On this platform we discuss the problems and historical development of our cities,” he noted. “I thank everyone who takes part in this movement, who is participating in today’s exhibition. Welcome to Moscow!".

According to Sergei Sobyanin, the main goal of the exhibition is to find harmony in the development of cities and the preservation of their historical heritage. The combination of history and modernity in the capital can be observed in the metro, where the architecture of the last century and new technologies are presented, on the streets where old buildings coexist with skyscrapers, and in the very center of the city, where the restoration of the Patriarchal Metochion proceeded in parallel with the creation of the modern Zaryadye Park. “We see historical streets that open their face, freeing themselves from a web of wires, clumsy signs, closed storefronts, returning their beauty and history to Muscovites,” he said.

In total, in recent years, almost a thousand architectural monuments have been restored in the capital, eight thousand buildings have been renovated, and architectural and artistic lighting has been installed. “These are revolutionary transformations that have made Moscow more comfortable and much more beautiful and attractive. I wanted to thank the restoration community, whose activities received, in fact, a new birth, which, thanks to enormous work, put their soul, skill and heart into the restoration of unique Moscow monuments, to thank the owners of buildings who began to have a different attitude towards what is in in their hands, to thank private companies that invest their funds in restoration,” added Sergei Sobyanin.

The exhibition also included a meeting between the Mayor of Moscow and the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, who presented Moscow with a mosaic panel depicting a fragment of a map of the USSR and Red Square.

“It is very important that we respect and value our cultural heritage and move towards our future with it,” said Burkhard Jung.

He also noted that the protection and protection of monuments should not be limited to just fencing them off and hiding them: “No, this means using what is old and ancient that we have to create what is modern at the present time.”

A consolidated stand was made especially for the exhibition, presenting institutions involved in restoration throughout the country. “We would like other regions of Russia to take part in the exhibition starting next year, where the restoration industry is developing, where our heritage is being restored, where there is everything that is a unique competitive advantage of our country. This is unique architecture - monuments, estates, palaces, this is what unites us with Europe, and what, by and large, is not left anywhere in the world except here,” added Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky.

The exhibition Denkmal will last until November 10 in Gostiny Dvor. Moscow is hosting this international restoration forum for the fourth time. Previously, it was held in 2011 (at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall), 2013 (at the Artplay design center) and 2015 (at VDNKh).

The organizers of the exhibition are Leipziger Messe GmbH and the Union of Restorers of Russia. It is held under the patronage of UNESCO and with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Moscow Government.

Denkmal is one of the largest European forums on the protection of architectural heritage. About five thousand people visit it annually. This year, participants in the exhibition included representatives of state bodies for the protection of monuments and leading restoration organizations from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, France and other countries; industry research organizations; customers and investors of repair and restoration work, as well as students of capital colleges studying restoration.

Guests of the exhibition will be able to learn about domestic and world experience in preserving architectural heritage in modern cities. The program includes seminars, round tables, lectures, meetings on the preservation of cultural heritage sites and master classes.

Restoration of cultural heritage monuments

From 2011 to 2017, 904 cultural heritage sites were restored in Moscow. Work on 131 of them was completed this year. As a result, the number of Moscow monuments in unsatisfactory condition decreased by 5.3 times - from 1,325 in 2010 to 249 in 2017 (their share decreased from 39 to six percent, respectively).

Among the iconic objects:

- residential building with chambers of the 18th century, 1875-1877, architect A.P. Popov, at the address: Podsosensky lane, building 11;

- residential building P.T. Klyuev, 1820s, at the address: Bolshaya Gruzinskaya street, building 5, building 3;

— residential house, XVII-XIX centuries, at the address: Starosadsky Lane, building 9, building 1;

— outbuilding of the Baulins’ city estate, late 18th - early 19th centuries, at the address: Tovarishchesky Lane, building 31, building 6.

Restoration of temples

From 2012 to 2016, 69 churches were restored at the expense of the city. Among them are the Church of Clement on Pyatnitskaya; objects of the Patriarchal Metochion; Moscow Diocesan House in Likhov Lane; objects near Zaryadye Park; ensemble of the Church of All Who Sorrow Joy on Bolshaya Ordynka; Church of Pachomius on Petrovka; Church of Flora and Lavra on Dubininskaya Street.

This year, work is being carried out at 21 sites, including the complex of almshouses on the St. Petersburg Highway of the Imperial Philanthropic Society - the building of the almshouse of Princess N.A. Cherkasova with the temple in honor of the Life-Giving Trinity on Leningradsky Prospekt; Church of the Nativity of Christ in Varvarin (Krasnopakhorskoye settlement, Varvarino village); ensemble of the Nativity Monastery - bell tower (Rozhdestvenka Street, building 20/8, building 16); ensemble of the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery - bell tower with a gate church (Petrovka Street, building 28, building 3).

Since 2016, the Moscow Government has increased the amount of annual subsidies to religious organizations from 200 to 300 million rubles.

Program “1 ruble per 1 square meter”

Since 2012, the city has had a program for the restoration of damaged architectural monuments “1 ruble per 1 square meter”.

Its main conditions:

— holding open auctions for the right to lease damaged architectural monuments for 49 years with their subsequent restoration at the expense of the tenant;

— restoration and restoration work is carried out under the control of the Moscow City Heritage, and their maximum duration does not exceed five years;

— after the restoration of the monument, the rent is reduced to one ruble per square meter of the building per year.

As part of the program, 19 damaged architectural monuments have already been leased. A comprehensive restoration of 11 buildings has been completed, including the following cultural heritage sites:

— residential building, 2nd half of the 19th century, Pechatnikov Lane, building 7 (2013);

- the main house of the city estate, XVIII-XIX centuries, architect K.F. Busse, Podsosensky lane, house 23, building 3 (2013);

- large Orangery - barracks of the 2nd Moscow Cadet Corps - residential building for students of the Moscow Military Paramedic School, 1789-1792, Hospital Square, building 1/10 (2014);

— administrative building, 1927, 1974, Bolshoi Kozlovsky Lane, building 11, building 4 (2015);

— outbuilding of the Khludovs’ city estate, 1861, Malaya Polyanka Street, building 7, building 3 (2016);

— northern wing of the Lepekhins’ city estate, second half of the 18th - end of the 19th centuries, Andronevskaya Square, building 4, building 2 (2016);

- residential building E.A. von Behrens, 1880, architectural technician M.A. Fidler, Gusyatnikov lane, house 7, building 1 (2017);

- residential building N.P. Baulin (based on 18th-century chambers), 1820s, 1880s, architect N.D. Strukov, Nikoloyamskaya street, house 52, building 1 (2017);

— service building of the T.F. estate Eminsky, late 18th century, Pokrovka street, house 14/2, building 3 (2017);

— outbuilding of the city estate of merchant M.N. Gusev, 1st half of the 19th century, 1858, 1882, Bolshaya Polyanka street, building 65/74, building 3 (2017);

— the main house of the city estate of V.F. Kolesnikova - Sarginykh - M.E. Shapatina, late XVIII - early XX centuries, Taganskaya Square, building 88, building 1 (2017).
